Funny what is conjured listening to some types of music, emotion, tastes, memory, other. Classical music used for advertising things other than the music itself should be censored a bit, a touch of sensitivity to the musical piece being used, and the product-consumer 'audience's mind' relationship.
Oh the effect on consciousness the trend to make available, both commercially and otherwise, and of their use in film/concerts of just the so called 'highlights' of so called classical music, exempli gratia the 'Ride of the Valkyries' from Wagner's beginning of Act III of 'Die Walküre', the second of the four operas by Richard Wagner that comprise 'Der Ring des Nibelungen'; and the mind pollution of that certain attachment of said piece of music to with Francis Ford Coppola's cinematic offering 'Apocalypse Now' (though the pairing is a very successful one in terms of drama and audience manipulation). Further examples are Edvard Grieg's 'In the hall of the mountain king' (his incidental music to 'Peer Gynt', Op. 23, written for Henrik Ibsen's play of same name), Piotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's Opus 20 'Swan lake', 'Scène: Moderato' excerpts; i suppose it is understandable that this occurs, for a number of reasons, but for it too happen so often creates a commonality of ignorance towards greater truthes and understandings of our multi-cultural world? This highlight-ism of classical music has almost become a standard in the so called western cultural paradigm. Let us pray for change.

Memories of John Cage's 'Fifty-eight', and iffy downloading question
I am the man who in toystore reels back from model robot figure labeled 'Deep space star scream'.
My head is forever replaying John Cage's Fifty-eight which i got out of the library (Wellington central) late 1999/early 2000; oh how i would like to listen to those beehive sounding strings (or wind instruments?) again; as i now live in an area whose library system is -- how shall i write this -- broad but commercially minded, i now must either buy a 'collectible' copy 49$USD via Amazon.com or download from the mediafire/blog paradigm. I feel being mistreated to have to buy a 'collectible' copy for 49$USD (60.45$NZD? as of 05.2011); i suppose i will wait, i non want to pay for what is available, yet am very uneasy about downloading something for 'free' that is available commercially; what would Cage do? Concoct my own version based on memory!?
Repeat above text for the composers Toshio Hosokawa's 'Landscapes I - II - V, Fragmente II, Vertical Time Study III', and Henri Pousseur's '8 Etudes Paraboliques in 4 CDS'. Music is distraction from the logos anyway? Or music is logos for that which has no words, the rather unhearable sounds of the universal cosmos! And therefore non distraction but mindwarp ultra, music of no words, the reasonings of planets, moons, stars, nebulae, comets, chemical chains, intelligence, the tool, and black holes.
Do i want to be newmedia anarchistic type, riddled with copyright infringement paranoia? Might make me a hit with my contemporaries, but what of my soul?!
Tempted and riddled, out.

Modern ambient music's 1884 prophecy
· De la musique avant toute chose,
Et pour cela préfère l'Impair
Plus vague et plus soluble dans l'air
Sans rien en lui qui pèse ou qui pose.
· Let's hear the music first and foremost,
And that means no more one-two-one-twos…
Something more vague instead, something lighter
Dissolving in air, weightless as air.

Sans rien en lui qui pèse ou qui pose.

And that means no more one-two-one-twos…

Dissolving in air, weightless as air.
A prophecy to/for ambient music? From 1884!
Oh your furniture music Satie, and your Eno's ticking vapourscapes, abloom, abloom, you fetching things!

Ersatzism in the culture
Drum machines are an ersatz experience.
Drum machines offer an ersatz experience to an ersatz world, a world saturated in images of the image, extended studio recording techniques, special effects, and marketed youth feeding on there own personality image.
In the postpostmodern world ersatzism is accepted to the point of invisible unremarkability and has been for quite some time.
The ancient law giving 'lords' (the blue cone head flat faced almond eyed beings?) have been replaced by confused mirrors of cultural strains.
People being quite blatently and even knowingly guided by image media culture, living ersatz pop lives, until maybe one day they find themselves in a situation that television etc has non prepared them for, what then, well it's called freedom my friends.

Argh! The images are burning into my mind!
'millions of images' - W.S. Burroughs.
Having a serious reaction to the world of images; first, i stayed away from the likeness image world, this gave me an understanding of ersatzism and truth/untruth. Then i looked upon mystical arts, then B&W photography, now i am flirting with colour video, oh how the world of images aches my soul...
We so called developed worlders, we swim in seas of image. I think ones intelligence rises if you exclude images from learning/life?
Are we image, are we living in simulated reality holistically/actually?

The meaning of life is...
The meaning of life has to do with - outside of food, shelter, offspring, survival paradigms - transience, complexity, inter-connectedness (relationships), and birth and re-birth (construction and destruction), fulfilling work and/or hobbies. Some of those things just listed are reiterated somewhat in the surrounding text, but there you are, complexity.
